Security guard experiences from the front line
Tuesday, December 15th, 2009I was now a full member of the team, following on from the experience gained at the summer Labour Party Conference in Brighton. I had received physical violence, spitting and verbal abuse, all of which has given me my colleagues respect.
But more was to come in my quest for ultimate knowledge in the field of guarding and security. It was if I had been promoted as a result of my experiences, and so I was sent to one of our largest clients who were regularly being targeted by squatters and travellers. The company that employed me offered traveller eviction services as one of its main specialities as well as site clearance once a bunch of people had been moved on. Many of these properties could benefit from the installation of steel security screens, which would solve the problem of intruders immediately, without the extra expense needed for security guards.
We have suggested this route on many occasions to this client, but they do not want to listen as they prefer a physical presence on the site.
When I first got inside the property having cleared the remainder of people, I was stunned by the sight that was in front of me. I used to have a fairly open-minded towards Gipsies, preferring to think of them as responsible people proud of their heritage. The mess that was left behind was truly disgusting! The waste left behind was not only human, but also there was some rotting food and many used needles from drug taking. We of course were well equipped to handle these types of problems, but as a human it was a mind numbing experience. I didn’t think that another human could live in these conditions in this day and age, heroin needles and signs of animal life. But unless we cleared up after these people and made the places safe, the insurance people would class the properties as ‘void’ and would offer no further cover.
